Windows Vista Business has crashed today. Since reloading windows and all the programmes I can't get the computer to recognise one of my external HD's. Any ideas from computer boffins?
All help appreciated Peter

XP Pro Corporate - that stuff never happens Peter!
Is the HD plugged into a PCIe card (if so try reloading driver) or motherboard (check integrated peripherals on reboot+Del).
Sorry to hear of your troubles and to state the obvious ports of call for error fix.

Hello Peter
I have a similar problem with the same type of external drive and vista business. Mine is connected via SATA and even though there has been two new ammended (SATA) drivers for it the problem persists intermittently. When I use the USB connection there is no problem, but obviously it is much slower.I now just connect the hard drive at the end of every other day and back up the previous 48hours before shutting down.
Best wishes
Phil

Obvious one but check cable? Swapping with another known working one would be beneficial
