Hi everyone. I just went up Bishop Crk Canyon yesterday to check on the color. Very nice color coming along to about 8000'.
North Fork: color down to just above Cardinal Village, very green still in Aspendale.

North Lake: still some in transition for the big groves above the lake and around, I'd think it will peak up there next weekend, give or take.

South fork: about the same as north fork more solid color above 8000-8500' and close to peak above those elevations. for instance, around FJ CG and below the trees are still very green but starting just below TM CG the color starts getting it on.

A couple things to note: I seem to notice a lot more red/orange color this year than last and the year before. There has been A LOT of smoke in this area due to the fires burning in SKCNP. some days are clear but the last couple have been smokey. there's rumor of a small weather system coming through early to mid next week which usually will bring winds along with it. Don't know to much yet. It looks to be much better this year than last.

edit: took this shot in the evening after work.

Thanks Cory!

Red and Orange is a good thing - sounds encouraging.

Will we see you up in the northern reaches next weekend?

Lon: I'm tentatively planning to be there sat in the LV area. Your lunch idea sounded good. But if we get a dusting of snow down this way next weekend like they are hinting at, I might just shoot down here. Will play it by ear.

An impatient friend of mine just drove out Subu full of gear for a multi week siege over there. Big negative continues to be the heavy smoke from the Tehipite Valley fire. Looked at it yesterday on the fire map and satellite, and then noted the jetstream forecast the next few days was not too favorable either. Earlier this month he had backpacked up over Bishop Pass and up Little Lakes Valley only to find the red arctic willow displays as poor as he has ever seen due to the dry dry conditions. Last year that was merly moderately dry, I thought many quaking aspen areas never developed good oranges and reds. Supposedly there is a fair chance a real cold front will finally sweep through by the end of next week taking care of that fire and air quality.
