I haven't heard this much ruckus about a new camera since back in the day when the 10D was not quite out yet! OMG that was a nightmare! We bought bits and pieces from everywhere.
What I'd like to know is where are you guys buying your camera gear these days? We pick from Glazers, B&H or Canoga, but I"m really liking Canoga lately. (hmm....one of the moderators may not like my topic, but he can't hurt me!)
Rick and I are # 71 & 72 on Canoga's pre order list. I went to check B&H and when I clicked "notify when in stock", I got this:
" Due to unprecedented consumer interest we are unable to add any additional correspondents to this list. Thank you for your understanding."
Not sure where folks are pre ordering, but thought perhaps we could start a suggestion list here? Jamie at Canoga said that they expect maybe half the folks on their list to really want the camera, but have NO IDEA how many they will receive from Canon. They are BEGGING for more.

You might want to give Kenmore Camera a try.

I get all my stuff from Amazon. Free shipping, no tax, great return policy, no NY attitude (grew up there, remember it well). I do use B&H when necessary.
One place that is taking pre-orders at full pop is BeachCamera.com. They are a high-rated seller, Authorized Canon dealer.
My 5D is gone, mailed out today to the buyer. However, I'll wait for the initial rush to subside and for the price to drop below the full $2699. Paying list price drives me batty!
It'll be a tough wait, w/no camera body right now, but I have lots of photography and Photoshop reading stacked up. Hey, this would be a good time to send my 17-40mm to Irvine and have Canon adjust it to the level it should be!

Hi Paul,
What do you mean when you are talking about having your 17-40 adjusted? I have one and now I am worring about whether it needs adjusting.

Hi Mike,
Ooo, interesting question. There are two kinds of Canon wide-angle zooms: Sharp ones with the typical mushy edges, and sharp ones with the typical mushy edges PLUS some additional optical issue over and above the norm. My 17-40mm has a problem on the left side of the image at the edge, it gets REALLY smeary. Worse that the ugly edges that are in Canon wide zooms normally. To further define the "ugly edges that are in Canon wide zooms normally", read Darwin Wiggett's excellent article about the Canon wide zooms.
Having said all that, I've seen numerous posts by people who've sent there 17-40mm's to Irvine, CA to have Canon calibrate them, and were overjoyed at the results. Hopefully yours is still under warranty, but sometimes they do the adjustment as a courtesy if it's not. They actually prefer you send the lens AND your camera body to line both up, but that isn't mandatory.
At any rate, if you're still in warranty period, you can't lose by sending it in. There are two Canon repair sites, but Irvine has the better rep. Here's the link to set up a repair.

I really like Canoga camera. I used to drive there on a weekly basis when I lived in Sherman Oaks.... they have an awesome no-questions-asked return policy. I took back a 17-40 f4L that was not up to par and they swapped me with one that is amazing.... so they get my vote
