I took this one Friday9/19/2008 at 6:30 pm. The light had not been working for me all day so I decided to do a little detail shot at -dare I say it - Bear Lake!

Canon 20D
Canon EFs 10-22

Ha! Nice shot John. Very different.

What is the deal with Bear Lake??? There are hundreds of lakes out there!!! Well at least the photos have been good, and you're all getting out... which is more than I can say. I've been glued to the computer all week. :frown:

Thanks Jack! This has got to be one of the most photographed spots in RMNP due to very easy access. When the water is still it reflects Hallet Peak, or Longs Peak or the fall colors. I stopped in to say hi to Erik and he suggested Bear for late afternoon light. As always the challenge for me is to do somehting out of the norm with an overly popular spot. Once upon a time this would have been 4x5 Tri-X turf but that was in a preveious life.

I see the image now :) - I like this different take out at Bear lake, I posted a B&W recently too and I think it works at this location. The composition works with the log cutting the frame diagonally, but overal I think I may be tempted to lighten certain areas (the fg rock, smaller log, and top left).

hey I can see it now, cool. This is definitely a cool and unique angle of Bear lake

Hey John,

Nice stuff. I am glad to see you were able to break away from work for a little photography. So what are the chances you will venture out west a bit for some Fall Colors this year?

This is the time of year I miss most in CO (Aspen and the San Juans especially). I was planning to head to the Eastern Sierras near Bishop to catch Fall Colors out here next week. But with the new job and house it is a little too crazy this Fall. I saw that Rick Dunn is headed down here to shoot Fall in the Owen's Valley.

Anyway keep shootin'

Hey Derek, don't be tempting me with surf n' turf dude!!! Are the colors begining there yet? I have been gone from California so long I don't even remember. I suspect it is happening about now in the high Sierra's. How about Owens Valley and down there on the coast? Regards to the family. Loretta, Briana and I headed up to Mueller and then on up 67 towards Cripple Creek... WOW! The colors are way better than last year and even some "red" aspens! Very spectacular! I imagine the San Juans are even better. John

Hahaha..
No apologies necc at all!!!
I think its a great shot John.. puts mine to shame. The only thing i may do differently is perhaps lighten the shadows a titch... but only a titch...

Great shot!!!
