Hey folks,
Can't believe our meeting was just over a week ago. It seems like so much longer. I finally got my film back the other day and I was pretty bummed - hence the word bust in my title. This was the only image worthy of posting. The scan isn't as vibrant as this and V100F added it's version of color and if it wasn't for PhotoShop, I probably wouldn't be sharing this.
Chris, I like your rendition of this scene much better - both in terms of color and comp.
Edward - sorry, but I blew the exposure of you in the surf... :-(
Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally down on myself. I like the image. I do think it needs more work. What do you think? Are the colors believable, too much?
Thanks folks! Hope to see some of you in about a week!
WOW, I kind of like this one, Lon. Although the FG rock facing is too dark, the composition idea and overall look comes across really nice. Reminds me of a couple hippos wading out there in the water.
Hey,
Sorry you are not as happy with this as you would have liked. The only thing I can see that stands out as a nit, is the darkness of the rock, as Paul mentioned. Other than that, this is pretty close to mine that you liked so much, without the sky. I do think the later timing, and inclusion of the orange gradient in the sky is important in my image. Also, my exposure time was 1min,40sec, and I think I could have gone a little longer. I like this one fine. I bet if you post this in ESS you will get a good response.

This is nice, Lon. The colors are very believable. I never liked V 100F for beach sunrises and sunsets. I always thought the color was weird.
Lon,
I think the colors look fine. Subtile reflection of the sky and fading light. I'm not sure about the rock. Regards,

This is certainly no bust Lon. The patterns in the water are excellent.

I really like the comp here, Lon. The ripples and color in the ocean are really pleasing. It sounds like you had to do quite a bit of ps work to get this image, and I am assuming that that is why you believe it was a "bust"...

Hi Lon,
I love this photo - I can relate to the subject matter very well.
I'd like to suggest a slight increase in the highlight values. What do you think?
