U.S. Customs House - Charleston
This shot was taken at 5:30 a.m. on March 5, 2008 from across the street in Charleston. I used a Canon 20-D with 17-85mm zoom lens, set at 33 mm. The IS0 was set to 800, with a aperture of f5.6 and a shutter speed of .8 seconds. The illumination is from the floodlights at the building.

I like this shot because it captures what is essentially a very dull scene in the daytime with dramatic lighting, no traffic or pedestrians, just a wonderfully, classically designed building all by itself. I would love to have critiques from anyone willing to comment.

i really love this... the lighting is very dramatic.... the only thing i wish i could see is more detail with the post lights which i know would be hard with it being at night. maybe you could get it with an optimizer on your lens...
great shot!

Very nice night time image image! One issue it has is the keystoning (is that the right word?)(outer columns lean towards center of image towards top of building). This is the nature of the beast unless using a lens with perspective control or a larger format camera with the proper controls.

However, there are software out there that corrects this (brings the lines back to vertical) and is included in at least CS3. I tried just adding a little vertical correction to your image (I hope you don't mind!!!!!) to show what a little CS3 can do for you. Like I said, hope you don't mind...I was playing with this feature just before seeing your image and couldn't help try it out on this shot. I think you have a wonderful image.

Ahhh, Nothing like large format. I just level the camera and raise the front standard. Even faster than Photoshop!

Cheers,
