Non-intuitive CS3 and Non-intuitive Vista 64-bit

I helped my wife transfer files and set up her new computer—an HP desktop with 6 gigs of RAM, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. The first one blew a chip fan after two days use. We took it back yesterday and exchanged it for a new one. We transferred files from a Norton Ghost image, made from the previous computer, holding our breaths in hopes it wouldn't overheat. Though the fan appeared to be running, despite the error message that it had failed. Mail and Photoshop CS3 would not work. Solved the Photoshop issue about 10:30 last night. It seems, for whatever reason, that CS3 would not run with the User Account Control turned on. Who knew??

The mail could be received but would not send to any of her address book contacts (imported with the file transfer). This morning, we figured it out—all of her contacts were translated with an extra space at the end of the address!

I hope all is well now. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm responding because I just bought an HP d5000t with VHPx64 and 8 gigs of RAM, and it's been running very, very well. I tweaked as many settings and service configurations as I could possibly get away with, and Vista still uses 1-1.5 GB of RAM just sitting there.

Everything seems to be working fine. I am extremely jealous of her 24" monitor! So I ordered a ultrasharp 24" Dell.

Amazing, John! I hadn't checked on the RAM usage, but if that holds true for hers, she got a 1 to 1.5 gig ram upgrade for a whole lotta bucks! :frown:

Goo dMorning,

I seem to be having a similiar problem. I just bought the 64-bit HP with the dual core processor and windows vista. It is an 8GB machine but will only read CS2 so far and will not read CS3.

Can you be a bit more specific concerning not 'reading' CS3?
Do you mean it isn't loading when you start it?
It loads, but doesn't read image files?

I get an immediate message that reads "Adobe CS3 has stopped working." and it won't open the program.

See my initial post above. Have you turned off UAC (User Access Control)?
