Since updating my PC to Vista 64 bit I can no longer run older versions of Photoshop, and can not spare the change for their latest version.
Elements 7 and Corel Paintshop Pro Photo both run on Vista, does anyone have eny recommendations or experience with either these 2 more basic programs?.
Thanks for any advice.
P.S. I've never used either program, always been PS 6, 7 & CS - I would like to still have the adjustment layers, Actions, etc functionality.

I've been a long-time user of Paint Shop Pro and have the most current version"X2", and love the program.
It handles RAW and JPEG files equally well (without any "add-ons"), and isn't a real drain on a computers resources.
While PS has a strong following, PSP can do almost anything PS does, and at a fraction of the price. If you want, you can download a fully-functional 30 day trial of PSP and give yourself a month to try it out.

Thanks Bob, I think I will try the 30 day Trial!.

Having downloaded PSP one biggie I notice is a lack of color management features/conevrt to profile etc. Does anyone know if Elements has color management features/soft proffing etc - or am I just wishful thinking for full blown PS features in a cheaper package?.

Here's a way that might work in getting PS CS running in your new computer:
CS uses the old school Windows directory rules which won't let you put "( )" in the directory, so the 'Program Files (x86)' directory is invalid (e.g. it wont let you install it there in the first place if you try to re/install).
What you need to do is install it at C:\progra~2\adobe, which you'll need to create exactly as it appears here in italics.

Nick, in PSP X2 did you look under: File-->Color Management--->Color Management ?
I think what you're looking for is in that menu...I do see a "proofing" option...

I believe the most recent version of Elements has color management tools. You might also consider Adobe Lightroom. Why did you "upgrade" to Vista??

Hey Ken - well I thought by now MS would of ironed out the compatibility bugs , plus there isn't too many machines anymore offering XP. Does look like the new PSE 7 has more advanded features!.

I was worried about Vista as well, but I've had pretty smooth sailing for about a month now.
Even my old Canon i960 printer works with it! I'm a bit disappointed that with 8 GB of RAM, and after tweaking as many settings and service configurations as I could possibly get away with, Vista still uses about 1 GB of RAM just sitting there.

Did you try the workaround for CS yet?
