Bluebird Pair in Old Pine
A pair of Bluebirds in an old pine tree on the shore of Calion Lake, Union County, Arkansas. Shot about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, using Canon 40D with 100-400 at 400mm, f/8, 1/80, iso 100.

I love the look of the bluebird peeking out of the hole in the tree. Both are captured really nice.

The scene depicts their standard division of labor: the female works in the nest while the male watches!

A couple of years back I put up two bluebird nesting boxes in my yard. Five minutes after they were up I had a pair checking one out. They never moved in and the boxes have come down, oh well. This pair has a nice "natural" homestead to raise their young.

p.s. I'm sure if the male had any say in the matter I'd have had bluebirds staying in my boxes the very first year!
