In about two weeks the rutting season of these animals will start, but the first signs are already there. Not as spectacular as the red deer's rut, but still interesting and exciting. So in advance, here's a picture of a buck in the mist, which I photographed last year.
Nikon D80 with Sigma 50-500 mm @ 500 mm, iso 200, F 6.3 1/50 sec on a tripod.

The trees add a nice framing to this one Sandra and the mist is really pronounced. As with a shot of mine recently it would be even better if the stag had been facing towards you but still very nice as it is. Was this taken in a park or are you lucky enough to have wild fallow near you?

@ Robert
Thanks for your comment. This picture was taken in the wild. Yes I'm lucky to have a rather large population near my home. The deer descend from animals in captivity though, which were released in World War II when the Allies flooded Walcheren (southwestern part of Holland) after bomming several dikes.

Nice atmospheric shot .Robert has mentioned the head but somehow it seems to
work on this shot as the viewer seems to be looking away with him.
The white ones are the first to get shot here as they spook the rest of the herd.
I,m lucky to have a wild population all around me too.
Cheers

Hoi Sandra,

Nice picture. Where did you make this one, on the Veluwe?
:toast:

I took a look at your website and found my answer.
Very good looking site by the way and of course a lot of good photographs. I put a link on my site so I do not have to search the next time.

Hi Sandra,

Lovely shot! Nice framing by the trees. I do wish the deer was a fraction more to the left of the frame or a touch more canvas to the right. Extremely minor though!

Hi Sandra,

I really like this. It's well framed by the Trees and the mist is making it all very atmospheric. I like the position of the deer, the head and in the frame.

Good work

Regards

Rob

This is very nice Sandra, very atmospheric, and I really like the composition. Minor nit is the curved twig, which draws too much attention.

I love the light mist and the way the folliage frames the scene. A good alert posture too and makes the viewer wonder what may have caught the buck's attention in the distance.

Very atmospheric. I like it a lot. :toast:

BTW, will people please use the correct name for him. He's a Buck not a Stag.
