I'm looking at making a few larger prints to display in my home. In looking into this I'm realizing that framing these poster sized prints is very expensive.
I'm wondering if there are alternative presentation methods I'm not aware of that are more affordable?
Any ideas are appreciated.

have you looked into plaque mounting or printing on canvas?

I'm not familiar with plaque mounting, I was directed into this forum because that might be a good option for me.
Would love to hear about it..

Plaque mounting is a great way to display large prints. Its probably a little cheaper than custom framing when you look at sizes larger than 24X36, but there are other reasons to choose plaque mounting.
At 24X36 and smaller I'm happy to do my own framing. I buy my frames most often at Aaron Brothers, which gives me the chance to individually review frames for issues with construction or handling. Doing it yourself is by far the most economical route, but you have to have space to cut mats and assemble the frames. And you'll need a mat cutter and potentially a self healing mat.

Here is some good info on plaque mounting. It looks pretty interesting although I haven't tried it myself. This company in located in Denver, that's probably why you were sent to this forum.
UPDATE: One advantage of matting and framing is that you can change out the print from time to time if it fades or you get tired of it. Hard to do that with a plaque mount.

I have used Artists Showcase for plaque mounting for a year now and they are VERY good! Erik Stensland uses them also. They have some unique ways of mounting and the prices are very reasonable.

Picture This Superior has been mentioned numerous times on this forum for their plaque mounting. I've had Nat Coalson print a couple pictures for me and he does a fantastic job (also a member of this forum). I had him do a print on canvas and another on hahnemuhle photo rag, both of which look great at about 30 x 40 and 17 x 24, respectively. Good luck!

I get all of my pictures plaqued. I use Emerson Frames in Greeley. He does excellent work and the price is reasonable. If you want more info drop me an e-mail.
If you want to do it yourself and don't want to cut your own mattes or have them custom cut which is expensive...try www.lightimpressionsdirect.com they have great quality mattes in lots of different sizes, though you have to buy in packages. Also mounting and framing supplies.
