I'm heading to Aspen this Thursday - Sunday and plan to shoot the Bells every morning. Any current information on the conditions there would be most welcome, as would suggestions for other photographic destinations in the area, especially for evening photography. Thank you in advance!

The center leaves were starting to drop as of a couple days ago, so I'm pretty sure they will be mostly gone by the weekend. Some of the outer aspens will still be turning or at peak. Castle Creek is beautiful as well.

Hi Brett,

This shot is from yesterday morning, 9/30. A few areas are bare in those center groves, but not too bad yet. I didn't make it for sunrise, I opted to get there once more of the area was in sunlight - this was taken around 10am. There were some nice puffy clouds that rolled through and made for a lot of changing shadows and broke up the blue sky - so I was pretty happy with that! I was also in the Castle Creek area and there are more bare stands in that area than in the Bells. Still lots of peak aspen, but that area is starting to fall.

Michael, don't take this the wrong way, but I could kiss you! I have been salivating about taking this picture for weeks and was crushed after reading the previous posts and envisioning this area with just bare aspen trunks and no golden leaves. Based on your pic it looks like this scene will have great potential through the weekend. It also looks like mid-late morning is an excellent time to photograph. I'm off to Aspen today - wohoo! I just wish I had the Sony a900 and Carl Zeiss 24070 2.8 I intend to order by my side.
