Capital Peak from Sunday night
Rene & I were out shooting this weekend and ran into Darren, Scott, Jimmy G, Brent D over at Capital Peak Overlook on Sunday night. It was quite a scene with 5 4x5 cameras all pointing the same direction. We had everything lining up for a dramatic sunset but then it fizzled out with overcast clouds to the west. Oh well I just cant ever get this shot right.

Doh!

I know the feeling Rich. It may not be exactly what you were shooting for, but its still a nice shot.

Awefully pretty for a fizzle. Always intend to get there, but it hasn't ever worked out. Nice to have a little more inspiration.

Who's this Voninski guy? Some lurker newbee?

Love the detail in the pines and the comp! Good to see you posting!

Nice shot Richie, but tough break with the clouds. The comp is great. Is this the overlook just outside of Aspen? It looks like a place I visited a few years back, and plan to go to in the next few days for sunset. I hope the colors will still cooperate with me. Your timing re: the aspens looks perfect.

No way!!! I was there on Sunday night too. Although I had hiked a little further down the trail, which is probably why I missed all of you guys. I agree, the sunset was a bummer, but the aspen color was the best I've seen it there. One of these days I'll get that shot with alpenglow on the peak, one of these days!

Here's one I took at just about the same time as yours. Too bad I didn't see you guys there. :frown:

I was just there Wed. pm/Thurs. am. This face of Capital doesn't get the morning glow. Still nice in the morning though.
The Aspens are awesome here right now and it should be really good during/after the present storm if most of the leaves stay on.

Sorry no pics yet.
I stayed low along the ditch trail because I wanted that slope to the left in your photo prominant in the foreground.

Yup, still a very nice shot for a fizzle.

Sweet view, Richie. Bummer about the lack of alpenglow; I had almost a full week in the Sierra with mostly mediocre light, so I can empathize.

Hey... what's that funny-looking stuff around the edges? I just got back my last ever 4x5 trannies from Photocraft. :frown:  :frown:

It IS a super touch location. But I really like what you brought home. Excellent comp. That is some nice color coming in.
