Hello Richard, I believe you mean the 24-105 f4 L. IS. I was given this lens as a present recently and have found it to be excellent. I don't believe Sigma have a true equivalent but their 24-70 f2.8 is also an excellent lens. Sigma brought theirs out many years before Canon and I bought it then as a very useful wide-short tele zoom for a full frame camera (EOS 3 film). On a crop sensor digital camera the 24mm is no longer a true wide but the extra reach at the tele end is very useful for me. The IS is useful for low light but then you gain another 1 stop with the 2.8 of the Sigma so not as big an issue as may be thought. If you want any further info drop me an e-mail. PS I still have the Sigma so if you are looking for a cheap but quality lens let me know.
Robert.
