If you head up to Rainier before the next freeze be sure and take some bug juice. I was up there yesterday and can't begin to count the number of mosquito and small fly bites that I brought home with me.....it never occured to me to take repellant this time of year.

Mark,

Have you (or anyone else) tried those mosquito nets? I have one, but haven't been in a situation to where I needed it. It was only $10, so if it doesn't work, I won't be heartbroken. I am more curious if the net is a viable alternative to a spray. The only thing that would then be exposed would be my hands (but then they have net gloves as well).

I have a hat that has one tucked into the bill....got it at REI several years ago...works great. I tried a mosquito "shirt" but it was a waste of money.

Thanks for the warning. Ugh, I feel for you.

Last week I encountered no mosquitos at Sunrise nor along the trail fromFryingpan Creek to Summerland. Just a yearling black bear cub at the popular elderberry grove near the switchbacks. Ken S

Mosquito nets are only effective if you wear thick, baggy clothing too, because those little suckers can still bite you through your shirt or pants. Might consider both, but spray works just fine for me (along with occasional gratuitous doses of my baseball hat). Bugs were gone at Baker this weekend, so I can only assume whatever is left at Paradise are stragglers. Season should be over for them.
