I am trying to decide in which direction to head for the fall foliage. My time frame is from the 9th-18th. As of now I am looking at three locations; downeast Maine, the White Mountains of NH or the Green Mountains in Vermont. The fall foliage website for Maine was updated today and things appear to be looking good for that location, but New Hampshire and Vermont have not been updated yet. I always have concerns with websites that are looking for your tourist dollar so I would appreciate some some actual input from some fellow nature photographers.

Thanks,
Ed :wavey:

I'll be up on the Kank Saturday...so I'll report then.

From what I hear, Western Whites are already nearing peak, while the eastern whites are mostly still green. Eastern Whites (Conway, Evans Notch, Tamworth, Chocorua) could be a good bet...

The best news is...it's looking like a banner year for foliage, and it looks like it is popping a little early everywhere...

Hi Ed,

I'm from the southern tip of the Champlain Valley of Vermont and I'm still seeing green. Over the last weekend it seems like the trees started to turn nicely. I'm hoping within the next week or so we should have a bunch of color. Email me if you're interested in this area and I'll keep you posted.

Northern Vermont is at or just past peak as of Thurs 10/2. I traveled north on rte 12 from Montpelier through worcester woods to Morrisville today and the color is just starting to wane. Around my home in Middlesex at around 1,500 ft the color has been awesome for the past week but we've lost a bunch of leaves in the past 48 hours. There is lots of great color still around so don't get discourged and in fact lots of areas are still a ways from peaking. It has been really nice so far, much better than the past several years. Happy shooting :toast:
