My life has been filled with entirely too much stress and sadness for the last few weeks, and it has kept me from taking much time to get out for photography. We've had to deal with death and illness and layoffs at work and it all seems like a heavy cloud. As much as I could use the time, I probably will not get out this weekend either. But last weekend I was in Breckenridge with some friends and took them on a hike up the Mohawk Lake trail.

As we sat at this lake teaching our friends' young daughter how to cast a fishing pole it clouded up, creating spot lights on the mountain. I think this photo tells a story of the fall. The water is low and glossy in the lake. The light is golden and compliments the earthy tones of fall. The tones reflect the warm and calm weather that I love in this time of year.

Hi Mel,

I like how you described the story of fall. I think you have captured this feeling well. Being able to get out
and shoot, helps turn down life's stress dial.

Sorry to hear about your recent stresses Mel. I can relate, it has been pretty far from a "banner" year for me too.

I'm glad you got to Breck though. I really like the spotlighting in this shot. This place just looks soothing.

The world is getting so crazy lately. Sorry to hear about your touch circumstances. Glad you were able to get out for this - a wonderful fall image. And I hope you can get out again soon.

Wow, Mel, I hope those things that can be fixed will be, and offer my condolences for the losses you've suffered. Seems almost trivial to comment on a pretty picture after that, but I guess there's nothing like art to divert one's attentions. The image is beautiful, perfectly composed, and simply one of the best you've posted here since I don't know when.

I really think it's in those sad/challenging/stressful times that the meaningful things in life reveal themselves more clearly. It has a way of bringing focus. I agree with Todd that this is one of your best; right there with one of the stunning Blue Lakes images that you posted this summer. The muted and vibrant earth tones play wonderfully together. Stellar image my friend!

Mel, I too, am sorry to hear about this rough patch your going through. Things will get better with time. There is nothing like morning light in the mountains to sooth the soul and mend the spirit. Very nice image for sure.
