I will be heading out to NorCal next weekend and will have a couple of days shooting around the 12th and 13th. I will be in the El Dorado Hills area outside of Sacramento, and looking for any suggestions you may have in that area. Making it over to 395 won't be a possibility, but am a little flexible.
Cheers.

That means you'll be right off US highway 50. You can take that over the sierras to Lake Tahoe. Or turn south on 88 or 89 before Lake Tahoe and go into Hope Valley. You won't be disappointed in either area.

Neil,
Locally around Sac and depending on what photography you like, you could visit "Old Sacramento." The American River has a series of trails and parks along the river that you can explore. You'd have to Google them.
But Lake Tahoe would probably be your best bet if you don't want to go all the way down on 395. I think exploring the area starting from Highway 89 out of southshore (Tahoe) to Highway 88 and Hope Valley would be nice to explore. Hopefully there will still be some aspens with leaves.
Perhaps Chris Chamberlain can chime in - I think he's pretty familiar with Lake Tahoe and could give you some location pointers.
Have a good trip.

Thanks for the suggestions. I frequent the area every so often and was up in Tahoe this past July. I think I will look into conditions for the Hope Valley area in the next few days and possibly give that a try.

I always confuse rtes 88 and 89, but one of them will take you from Hope Valley through the town of Markeeville and over Monitor Pass. You could find some nice fall Aspens on Monitor Pass.
