In the land of nod
Landing on a beach full of Sea lions was 'awesome' and a baptism for me. I wanted to trying something different, and being inspired, came up with this. Fast asleep, (however he/she knew I was there) this snoring was quite content.

Love it, hate it, for me I was trying to break new ground from my more 'normal' imagery.

Thoughts welcome

Well, if nothing else, you have succeeded in what you wanted, because it is certainly different from the norm!
All the oof stuff in the fg is a bit much for me though, but I realise there is not much you could have done about that from your chosen viewpoint.

Hi Stephen,

For me the OoF FG is a bit to much. Would have been nice to see all the head, especially the eyes. Sorry Stephen this one does not work for me :frown:

Regards

Rob

Hi Steve,

I quite like it and from an editorial point of view plenty of room for text! If it was in vertical format I could image a front page quite easily.

I've had a bit of trouble making my mind up over this shot Steve, but now I have come back to it today I've decided - I like it :wavey:

Yes I'd have gone for a vertical comp as well as this - there are 3 or 4 permutations I can think of to be honest.

I'd certainly crop this to portrait Steve, and you'll end up with a nice image :wavey:

OK guys, 'this is where I am'.

I wanted to think 'outside the box' and a bit more creative, to try and break from the norm. Whether I have done this or not, is all subjective I guess. I had seen that by using a short DOF the 'sand' almost had a quality of being blown/swept along (IMHO). The sea lion covered in sand, on his/her back, mouth open, sleeping. I could relate to  It was worth a punt.

Rob, if the eyes were open then he/she would not have been awake

No 'nits' Andy, perhaps my images should be more abstract from now on

Thanks for you time 'ladies & gents'.

Always good to see a fresh approach but I'd have to agree that there's just a bit too much sand obscuring the animal, IMHO.
I'm with Rob on this one about the eyes being visible. Not open, but with the foreground layer of sand being a little less/lower, giving a glimpse of the animals closed eyes.

a 'nearly' shot for me. Certainly an interesting subject but it took me a while to work out exactly what I was looking at, mainly because of the OOF area in the foreground.

Look s like an older animal to me with sever gingivitis. The OOF foreground is a little too much and I have noted other comments to confirm this. I like what you are trying to achieve and I think that if you had a slightly raised body position (you , not the seal) the foreground may have been less dominating and we'll have seen a bit more of the head. I think this has the opportunity to work very well and is the sort of image that, when executed to it's max can draw in the viewers and they will spend time with it. Look forward to more from you with this kind of style.. It does grow on you when you come back to it..!
