Common Bonnets + Fly
Common Bonnet (Mycena galericulata)

I decided to go out early thismorning, before the expected lunchtime rain, that hasn't materialised to much here yet!

I know the dof isn't perfect, I am STILL trying to get to grips with it  However I was pleased with the fact that the scorpion fly (I think) landed on the middle shroom whilst I was taking the shot, and took off just after I clicked the shutter!

40D, 180mm macro,20mm ext.tube, silver reflector,on board flash and hand held diffuser.Tripod mounted and remote used.
1/50,f8,ISO 400, manual focus.

Almost forgot to mention a small crop from top and bottom of the image.

Lovely composition on this. That bright green bit behind the middle one grabs the eye a bit though. Cheers

PS
I think its one of the Ichneumon flies

Fine comp as John said,

I think a trio of subjects is always a winning combination and it certainly works very well here.
I like the diagonal composition and the insect is an added bonus and a welcome extra element of interest.

Excellent image, great POV. The insect looks like an ichneumonid as John says. See

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichneumonidae for information.

that's a nice shot Fran, it reminds me of a similar 'fly on bonnet' shot I took last year. The cluttered background would be my only real nit.

Keep up the good work Fran, I have to practice with these myself this year as I don't have any 'at-all' in my library... See you Saturday I hope..

Hi Fran,

Nice image. I particularly like that the stipes/stalks are different shades.
