Nuthatch
A lot of birds come to Holland during the winter and it's a wonderful time to build new set-ups and enjoy these lovely creatures up close.
This morning it was the Nuthatch that came as close as 6 feet to my hide in the ground.

A lot going on but I like it,it seems a bit out of context with the heather but a great shot none the less look forward to seeing some new birds and sets as the winter progresses.

Hi Edwin,
did you compose this setup? wonderful!!
The contrast of the red foreground and the calm green BG.
Nice pose of the Nutty too.

Thanks guys,

Yes, I know. There's a lot to look at but it's very natural. The heather is growing under some Scots Pine trees and the Nuthatch is looking for food under them. I'm making all my setups in a natural environment. This is just the beginning and learning every day. So you C&C are more then welcome.

Nice Nuthatch pose etc, but I think the heather(ling) is a little overpowering, and takes attention off the main subject. Nice colourful shot though.

A very attractive image.
My initial thoughts were along the same line as Craig's about the setting being wrong for this particular bird but if that's where it chooses to feed then who are we to argue
Although the purple of the heather and the plumage colours of the Nuthatch aren't a combination you'd think would be ideally suited, I don't think they clash and I quite like the combination, but I love bright and colourful images so I am a little biased
I think the toadstool draws the eye a bit and personally I'd prefer the scene without it with just the three main elements, i.e. the bird, log and heather.
Looking forward to more.

Another cracker Edwin, like all aspects. Just one question, does it look too sharp?

Lovely pose and very colourful "perch". I too think I would prefer a little less heather, perhaps cropping from both sides - but that might lose the mushroom, which I happen to like!

Great use of colours and well done with your set up. For some perhaps a little gaudy but I think it looks ok. :toast:

I like this shot a lot - an improvement for me (and it's only my taste) would be to clone out the mushroom as it is noticeable and draws the eye, and to reduce the saturation selectively of the heather

a cracking shot as is though and one I'd be happy to have in my portfolio.

there is a lot going on and part of me thinks there's a bit too much but another part really likes all the natural elements (heather, moss, mushroom etc). It's certainly a well taken shot.
