I just got back this weekend from a 5 day trip to Colorado. The colors were the best I have seen in recent years.
Bill Dark and I were able to camp together one night and met for dinner on another night. I think we both stayed pretty busy taking photos in the Crested Butte, McClure Pass, Ridgeway, Teluride and Ouray areas. I have many shots to sort through but here is one from County Road 5 near Ridgeway. It was nice to catch the Sneffels range with some snow on them. I will post a link to more photos soon.
Thanks for looking.

What an ideallic setting Tom. There is so much to look at with all the patches of pines, aspen, meadows etc. Snow on the Sneffels and color in the sky, what more could you ask for? Looking forward to seeing more.

It's almost enough to make a person want to move there. Beautiful shot, Tom.

A wonderful patchwork of color in this Tom. I like the small opening in the middle it provides a relaxing area in which to view the far reaches of the mountains.

I noticed that you have not posted this photo on your website. I would love to see it full size. Next best thing to being there!
Fantastic image, Tom! Love the pink clouds, and perfect composition. Snow in the mountains looks great too - bet there's a lot more there today...Nice work!
Awesome spot. I snagged an early morning pano from this spot. From the color, it looks like you took yours a few days after mine.

O.K. I'm ready. When do we organize a field trip to the Rockies ?? Both shots are spectacular images. They look more like the opening to a Ben Johnson western than anything else.. Tom, The highlights on your shot set off the depth of the mountains in the distance.
More like a Ralph Lauren ad - he owns a ranch that includes one of those zig-zag old western fences that you see in so many of these shots of the Sneffels range - he owns many thousands of acres from the highway all the way up into the base of the mountains. At one time he had his goons chasing photographers away from the spot where the standard shot was made, but I think he has backed off on that these days.

Thanks for all the great comments, it was truly a great spot.
Daniel, this shot is 700 pixels and this will be the largest I will post to my website. When I put up the rest of the shots, I wlll include this one in a gallery that allows larger files. This shot really does have more detail when not compressed by the pixel size limit.
Ed, it looks like we were pretty close the same area, but you may have been a little farther down the road, I was blocked on the left by some brush. I bet your pano will make a great print.
Tim, I think Ralph Lauren's ranch is on both sides of County Road 9? The people I talked to indicated that as long as you stay on the right of way you are ok. There is a big wooden gate just off of the Highway that makes you think it is private property. Most likely Ralph Lauren's subtle way of making the unsuspecting traveler think the road is private.
Is county road 9 West Dallas Creek road? I didn't spend any time on it this trip, simply too much to see. I have been there three times and still finding cool spots.

Ed, I think that is correct, County Road 9 is West Dallas Creek Road and County Road 7 is East Dallas Creek Road.

Tom it all came together on this one. Great color in the trees and the sky really is beautiful. Love it.
