Maroon Bells area pics
Hi everyone. It's been a blast checking this site during the past few weeks to see all the great fall color pics being posted! I just got back from Aspen this afternoon and have a few DSLR (Sony a100) shots from the trip posted here: http://www.brettdeacon.com/gallery.php?gallery=Aspen2008. Almost all of these are cliché shots that nearly everyone on this forum has probably taken, but I nevertheless had one hell of a good time hanging out and photographing in the Maroon Bells area. The weather wasn't very cooperative but I managed to be in the right spot at the right time in at least a few instances. The colors at Capitol Peak were amazing but thanks to a driving rain and my lack of creativity a 3-hour trip there from Aspen yielded zero exposed photographs, muddy boots, and a wet backpack. I have a lot of 4x5s and 6x17s to send out and am really excited to get them back in a week or so.

You have some nice captures here Brett including this one! I may the only one here that has not photo'd the Bells. I have been there but not with a camera. I suppose I will break down and shoot there someday!

A lot of good images in your gallery. I especially like the one of Sievers Mtn with a dusting of snow.

I haven't even been there, so you're not alone John.

Brett, this is a classic shot and you've done it well. But I think it might be displayed in aRGB. The mid-tones and saturated colors don't look the way I would expect them.

Thanks for the feedback Mel. I see what you mean - this image does seem to have a somehat reddish color cast that I'm having a hard time getting rid of in Photoshop. Hopefully the 4x5s will be easier to work with.

Good good stuff there. Really dug the one with the aspen trunk in the foreground.

Nice stuff, Brett. I really like the reflection here. I never get tired of seeing shots of the Maroon Bells.
BTW, I have never been to the Bells either.

Nice images Brett, I really like the abstract one.

Brett - I'm glad you were able to make it down there for good color still. You came away with some great shots! Great 'icon' shots and then some really cool abstracts!

Brett,
Nice images, all. Question: I really like #389. Given you discussion on your website about Digital manipulation and the fact you use a 4 x 5, I understand how you could create that image both ways. How did you do it for #389? Shoot the straight film image and manipulate in PS? If so, what PS function was used? thanks.
