(WITH NAMES) CANP Group Photo Lee Vining 10/04
Just wanted to share the group photo that was taken during our CANP lunch break in Lee Vining on Saturday 10/4/08. It was really great to see everyone who could make it to Lee Vining on that day. What a great looking crew!

Thanks for posting this Paul. It was nice meeting you and everybody else. First person to name everybody is a superstar. I think I can only name about half ;-)

Pam & Jason, I sure wish I could recall everyone's name in the scene, but I would fall short and did not want to leave things open-ended with a half attempted try overall.
I will at least commit to naming the yellow Labrador laying on the ground in the front row. That is Maggie, one of Harley Goldman's two yellow labs that made the trip. She truly seemed to be having a wonderful time along with a couple other family dogs that made the trip. :jump:

wow, quite the turn-out!

Wow. That is a lot of people. It would be nice to put a name to some of the faces.

Thanks for posting the picture Paul. Yes, it was great meeting many of you for the first time and seeing others I have photographed with already. Despite the wind and the weather Friday and Saturday, I had a glorious weekend and the photography definitely surpassed my sleep deprivation! I hope at least a couple of my images come out and I'll post some once I get the film back.

It should be noted that not all in the picture are NPN'rs - some from one of the "other" forums. But I'll do my best to put some names to the faces. Forgive my spelling upfront.

Thanks Lon for helping out with the names. I had most of them from NPN, but did not know any of the folks from the other FM organization.
Posted by Steve Sieren on October 7, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Lon, you spelled my last name wrong? :frown: There is no wambulance coming around.

According to that sign there none of us should have been there. It was nice to meet all you guys and gals. I was suprised to see all of the large format camera too. I hope I get a chance to try that someday. Sorry I left w/ out say good bye. Couldn't find you all spread out at Bodie. I ended up missing the sunset and became wide awake at 4am. Did you all shoot at the Marina?

Hey Steve, sorry for the misspelled name, it did not look right to me at the time either. With a last name like mine one usually has to cut and paste it to come close in getting it correct. I have changed yours on my listing above....

Great time there. Very nice to meet you all. The two on the left are Bill, and Phil Radlick, and on the right is Doug (waycool), all from FM.

I explored many canyons and groves around the Mono area, and sadly, we were there too early. And what the heck happened to that monster storm we all prepared for? I camped at Black Point on Sat night and woke to a very typical boring mono morning without a cloud in the sky. I found glorious color in Bishop Creek canyons near both South and Sabrina lakes. Conditions were the dreaded full bright sun, but later as the mountain shadowed one side of the canyon, the light reflecting off the opposite side caused a wonderful glow. Finally I had an opportunity to try out the new Chamonix 4x5. That was the only time I got into my groove, so let's see what the films produce later this week.

(Sent from the parking lot at Mountain Light Gallery, a secret wifi spot).

Thanks for the update with the additional names in the photo Jeffrey. Yep, most of us, me mainly, were a bit too early this year that's for sure.

Geez what a motley looking crew.. Sorry had to say it..

BTW Anil what is with the sunglasses in the photo? Was the sun out or something?

Hey Paul,

And Everyone Else - It was great to see you again and to meet some for the first time. It was a great weekend and I want to go back.

Out of curiosity, what does FM stand for? Inge Fernau has some great foliage updates on calphoto.
Posted by Lon Overacker on October 8, 2008 at 1:17 AM
I guess not everyone knows about the other online photography forums, which is good news for NPN right? :-)

FM stands for Fred Miranda. He has a online critique/photo forum and actually a number of folks pariticipate in multiple forums. I'll let you all figure out or search for the url....

What a bunch of scofflaws... bringing dogs where it is clearly prohibited. Seriously looks like it was a great time and I can't wait to make the next outing.
Posted by Preston Birdwell on October 12, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Motley crew? Scofflaws? Who you talkin' about? Oh, yeah, that's us all right!

What a great group of folks! It was indeed a pleasure to meet everyone and to view the portfolios some brought along to share. I would not trade such times for all the money in the world!

It is my hope that we can have similar gatherings in the future!

Thanks to all for coming to the party! :toast:

-P

ps: The two dogs are Maggie (Harley's) and Buttercup (Doug's).

In case anyone from the Whoa Nellie Deli reads this: Thanks for your hospitality!

Ooooooooooo I am SO jealous.... was this at the Tioga Gasmart lawn?
You forget my nick name is "Nellie" and I live on their food when up there
Did someone have ribs or cheesecake for me?
BTW, Dan Swiger is in my FM_NorCal group as is Ed Nunez who was also
up there all week attending the 3 day Bodie workshop and getting the storm
that went over the Sierras... Kudos to all of you that made the grade... teehee....
Maybe next weekend in YNP valley? time for red dogwoods yet after this storm?
Hail to the Motley Crew....aka Best on the Better Side, I say.... :toast:
