Be good to see you as well Elliott... the forecast at the moment looks promising, but we all know how unreliable that can be...

For anyone in South West finding these two venues too far, I am probably going to try my luck at Dyrham Park (just South of J18 M4 ) - a National Trust property that holds an ancient Fallow deer population. This is my first visit here, so I am unsure just how approachable the deer are compared to the Richmond inhabitants. Also the deer park opens at much more leisurely hour of 11.00am....... the downside of which is won't get any misty bellowing shots.
oh yes....don't let Adrian eat all the bacon rolls at Richmond......

hi Mike
I was going to brave the early morning trip up to Richmond Park (I'm off jnct 17 of M4) but if you are going to Dyrham Park along with anyone else I'm happy to meet up. I have been there before and the deer are surprisingly approachable (all the visitors to the stately home no doubt)
cheers
Colin

Hi Mike,
I`ve been to Dyrham a few times and I agree with Colin they are extremly approachable, the backgrounds are not perfect , but with a little thought you can get good pics, and only a couple of minites from the M5!

Hi,
I've been a member of this forum for some months (but not posted for a time though). I visited Richmond Park the other weekend at sunrise, but there was not too much happening then.
I'm planning on coming to Richmond Park this coming weekend too, so is it OK if I join up with this group?
I'd be on foot (i.e no car) at the Pen Ponds with my bag and tripod...

By all means you are more than welcome, the more the merrier... I visited last weekend and the Rut, although early days, had started.... very close to the bacon sarnies at Pen Ponds....
So far the weather is looking good for Saturday, with a possibility of a misty start... keeping my eyes peeled on the forecast, as we all know it changes from one day to the next.

Hi Guys,
Sadly cannot make this, as I have a family engagement in the afternoon, however I will be going to a Suffolk stately home, for first light, where they have Red and Fallow Deer roaming free in the parkland.
At least the weather looks very favourable....................at the moment
Have a good one!!
Regards
Rob

Weather looks mixed for the weekend, maybe wet north of leeds and south of newcastle, but looks ok for the south atm. I havent been to Bradgate and it would be nice to see some familiar faces again. Failing that i may visit one of the local parks or stalk the Goyt wildies.

Hoping to make it to the Richmond meet, never really been there which is pretty bad considering i live in London, 50/50 if i can come at the moment, but fingers crossed

Noooooooo, I've been in a car crash, and my little green 106 is no more, (got rear ended by a taxi) so i probably will not be able to make the Bradgate event, as i need to nip down the garage to get the radio (beyond economical repair)

Hi Mike,
I will be turning up @ Dyrham Park

Just to confirm, I will be at Richmond tomorrow. Might be a little late as bringing the Mrs She needs to brush up on her camera-carrying work before our up-coming trip to the Masai Mara
Any Bradgaters.. say below ... would like a 6.45am walk from carpark --- sunrise is about 7.20am

Some INFO for you if you are planing to go to Dyrham Park.
I went today and all of the males are still together with all the females. No sighnes of the "rut" yet IMO.
There were also a group of 6 males somewhere els in the park, all hanging out together.
Tho i did see and photograph a couple of males clashing heads for anly about 1 minute .
But maybe the Fallow deer do the rutting stuff different from the Red deer

Are you allowed to use a Tripod at Richmond if you're an amateur? I *heard* that you have to be a professional with a permit.... or is that just rubbish and its fine? I have a gitzo 5541LS and 600F4, I wouldn't want to be told to go home!

Very quick here... no problem at all using a tripod in Richmond Park... The permit is only if you intend to use the images commercially....
See you all tomorrow..
