Just wanted to thank everyone who provided tips, updates and emailed info to help with planning our fall trip this year.
I wish we could have met up with the gang at the Whoa Nellie Deli. We ran into Cory at North Lake early last week where the colors were superb. After a few days of shooting the canyons around Bishop, we headed north to June Lake and Lee Vining on Wednesday where we found the green conditions that Paul described in other posts.
Not seeing much color potential for at least a few days, we made a command decision to forego the northern canyons and instead head to the coast, working our way north from Eureka. Found some wonderful conditions and non-aspen fall scenes as we worked our way through northern coastal CA and southern OR.
Thanks to everyone here who helped with info and insights. The light was a fickle mistress, but the scenery never disappointed. Even though it unfolded a little differently than expected, it was a great trip (notwithstanding the knuckleheads who stole firewood from our campsite one day... )

It was nice to meet you again Rick, and your wife. You definitely picked the right weekend for bishop creek area, last weekend wasn't too good with all the wind. Hope to see some images from your trip!

I agree on the light. I didn't see anything as good as I had in the past but still fun nonetheless. You made a heck of a drive to get here.

I am glad to hear you made it down to CA for some Fall colors. It is kinda funny that we were shootin' Colorado Fall colors not too long ago while we were living there. The Eastern Sierras are perhaps our favorite part of CA. Of course the coast is at the top of the list as well. And the section you drove from Eureka thru Southern Oregon is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to get back up there and do some shooting again myself.
Anyway I reallly look forward to seeing your shots once you get them processed. Glad to see you back out again after a little break. I took a break this Fall as we have just been settling in after our move to Monterey. But I plan to get up to Yosemite this Winter. That is my favorite time of the year in the park. I love seeing it covered in white.
