I am proud to announce that my good friend Dave won the award for best pictorial book at tonight's Colorado Book Awards gala event. The book, for those of you newer to the forum, is called Prairie Thunder - The Nature of Colorado's Great Plains, and you can have a look at it here. Way to go, DAVE-O!

Wonderful news!!! Congratulations to both Dave and to you Todd for an amazing book of superb quality showing the beauty of the Colorado plains! I hope this will be a big boost to Skyline Press and to Dave's photography
Great job Dave. It's truly a wonederfl book on a subject not often getting much "focus". And Todd, you too for all you do to promote and help all of us in this common passion of ours!

Funny, I thought you were talking about my passion for loud hippie music.....
Thanks everyone for your kind words of support - it means a lot to me. It's tough to gain traction in the nature photography world and our supportive environment is important for affirmation and growth.
Todd deserves a lot more credit than his humility will allow him to accept. I came to him after nine rejections with an idea for a prairie conservation book. Todd saw something that others didn't and extended himself to take on a grassland project - something he didn't need to do given his success with outstanding (and award winning) mountain books and calendars. The process was a constant conversation over many months, with ever-changing events in the political and conservation landscapes. Todd missed a couple of seasons of shooting; and ultimately, assembled a book that we can both be very proud of. He has a way of seeing and designing that few have the talent for - maybe because he's one of "us" and understands what goes into making images and fully developing a project. I'm proud of the recognition for our little prairie conservation book, proud of our friendship, and happy to share some of the story with you. Thanks Todd!
