The Lodge Keeper
Photographed along the Snake River. Had to use fill flash as the light was fading fast.

What a cool shot. Can't say that I've ever seen a beaver in action like that, let alone gotten a shot of it.

Nice shot Don! I had a beaver living in the creek not two blocks from our house and never got a shot of him out of the water. Good job!

SWEET!
I assume you had a long lens. Better beamer for the flash?

Bill, I had my 70-200 on with a flash extender. I had to crawl into one of the water runs leading up to where the Beaver was cutting. I got close enough to snap off a couple of frames hand holding. Only one was sharp enough to keep. I was working out of my Van but that night got a hotel as the water was freezing.

I've never actually seen one on the job like this. Great capture. He was busy.

Don, that opportunity was certainly worth the cost of a hotel room!
Although, I might have drawn the line at crawling through freezing water.

Fantastic work, both you and the beaver! Like the others said, it's very difficult to find a beaver busy cutting down a tree, let alone getting a quality shot like this one. Well done! :toast: :toast:

Great shot! Nice job with the flash as well. Looks very natural.

Fantastic photo Don, well done. My wife and I watched them once in Canada from a close vantage point and saw them cutting trees and taking them back to the pond and stripping the bark to eat, fighting with each other etc. Very cool. You did well to get this close.

Don, What a super shot! Such dedication to get the shot. I'd say it was worth the crawl!

Very, very cool Don! Great capture! I remember seeing beaver's like this when I was a kid on vacations to RMNP, but haven't seen this behavior since!

Amazing. I too have never seen a beaver at work like this. Wonderful capture Don!

Another 'outstanding!' comment here.
I've also never seen a beaver doing it's thing, and the flash work is excellent!
