Franklin's Gull in flight
I received my 50D on Monday, and went out for a test run on Wednesday evening. IMO, the AF is faster than my 30D, and the AI Servo for BIF is much better than my 30D. A large flock of Franklin's Gulls were swarming above the marshes at Quivira NWR. I was interested in exploring the noise levels of ISO 800, so I shot these flight shots at that ISO, f/8, 1/5000, ~50% crop, with minimal NR. C&C always welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

That's quite a shot, Rob, especially for ISO 800! Camera bodies just keep getting better and better. Nice!

A really nice in flight shot Rob. Of course it's hard to tell from the web view, but looks pretty clean noise wise to me.

Good detail on a fast moving subject! Handheld I presume? What lens and focal length?

ISO 800 is very useful for such shots and it cleans up very nicely in post (at least with my 40D). I use imagenonic's Noiseware Plugin for Photoshop. It will even sharpen as it cleans up noise.

Thanks everybody. Daniel, this was hand held, with a Tamron 200-500mm at 500mm. I have shots with the birds filling the frame more, but I like this pose the best. I definitely think there is less noise at ISO 800 on the 50D than on my 30D.
