A group of us here having been toying around with the idea of bringing up a Photoshop tutor. With the cost of flying to the south it is prohibitively expensive to go on courses and workshops.
The thrust of the idea is that we would pay for someone to come up with room and board. It would in turn offer them the opportunity to shoot in an area that might otherwise be too expensive to visit.
We are wondering if anybody here has tried this sort of thing and with what success.
It's been a while, but we did several similar workshops a number of years ago. But we didn't get much interest from "name" photographers till we asked about their fee, then figured in transport costs. With that # in hand we went shopping for supporters and enrollees. We were able to hold down cost of the operation by providing room and board in participant households, but it was a no-go without cash in the pocket of the celeb. Might be different for a Photoshop tutor, but a lot will depend on the reknown of the tutor.

We do variations on this here in Fairbanks. Generally, if we offer a few shoulder days before and after, we can attract folks who want an expenses-paid mini-vacation to Interior Alaska. We usually house them in the home of one of the participants, loan them a car and turn them loose. NWT is at least as interesting as my part of Alaska. If you work at it, and pay air fare both ways, you'll find someone.
