Coopers (not Sharp-shinned) Hawk
This Hawk was causing chaos at my feeders late yesterday afternoon. It eventually paused long enough for me to grab a few frames, as it stood on the 'wrong end' of a perch that had been knocked down by Grackles earlier in the day.

I did clone out the broken end of the perch but it didn't look right, so left it as is.

1D2N, 500/4 @ 1/250, f5.6, ISO 800, handheld

EDIT: See my comment below - I got the ID wrong

Mark,

I love the over the shoulder look. You can see the hungry in the eyes. Broken end doesn't bother me too much.

The end of the branch is fine as is, a great capture of the Sharpie with incredible intensity in its eyes.

Wow, what a clean image, great background, sharp and well composed.

There is alot of emotion and attitude that you've captured both in his look and in his eyes. I bet this image does very well for you!

And yes, it was nice to have met you as well!! When are you heading back to England?

Sharp indeed... Those eyes mesmerize you. Terrific capture.

Thanks everyone.

After someone questioning the ID on another forum, I did some research and found that it is actually a male Cooper's Hawk (dark 'cap' and large white terminal band on the tail). The size and structure had me convinced at the time that it was a Sharpie...another valuable lesson learnt.
