David Muench once told me that he HATED photos of late fall color with naked tree branches in them - he much prefers early fall and said that GREEN was a color too and should be celebrated right along with the rest. We've got a Muench type of fall going on right now...

Must be a bit farther north of us down here in South Arkansas. Beautiful colors.

Looks like Fall is well on it's way around there as well. Nice to see the shaded underbrush colors blending in so well.

Nice. Gotta love the fall. Looking forwad to when fall finally gets to Texas (late Oct in west Texas, Thanksgiving for most of the state).

Wonderful extraction Tim, I really like the dark trunks set against the splashes of color in the frame.
Should be some great stuff coming from our Arkansas contingent over the next few weeks.
Wonderful image Tim......I like the dark against the color. Good job!!

There's a lot more color here than I would have thought. The understory is looking pretty good over my way, but I don't think it's this far along yet. Beautiful, Tim.
The colors have begun to turn here in places - some pretty nice stuff. In fact I think the peak will have come and gone and nothing but bare trees by the time of your gathering on the 24th. Just kidding of course! In fact I think you will hit the peak that weekend and should be able to go in any direction for great color - I have always found that to be a much tougher situation to shoot - with so much good stuff you don't know where to go and want to capture it all but there is no way - so you just have to put blinders on and select one or two areas to concentrate on.
By the way for some reason the elk have disappeared from Boxley Valley - we've seen a grand total of one cow in the past week or two. Not sure what is up with that. I've been getting lots of disappointing e-mails from folks who have come over to see them.
By the way #3, the fields that have been burned off in Boxley recently will be planted with elk food so that next year it should be a mecca for the elk - the new land owner loves elk and wants to attract them. The park service is considering putting in pullouts and reducing the speed limit through Boxley. I hope they do that before someone gets killed...

Excellent pic Tim as always. My daughter and I were up that way over the weekend and found good localized color, especially along the creek and river beds. We were able to capture some good reflection shots at Steel Creek and down at Falling Water.
As to the elk, I was amazed at the cars lining the road all the way from the low water bridge to the pull-off. It reminded me of a Christmas parade, complete with lawn chairs, picnic baskets and tons of kids darting in and out between the cars. If I were an elk, it would have been enough to keep me away! I had the same thoughts as you about someone getting run over.
As this was the first trip to the area for my 14 year old, I was disappointed about the elk's disappearing act, but we did finally see 4 young bulls early Monday down near the last area of pasture before the pull-off.

Tim, kind of reminds me of a shot I have hanging over my entertainment center. Was this taken in the same area?
We saw five elk in Boxley today. Game & Fish folks are saying that it is the "full moon" that is keeping the elk out of sight (I think not), but they said a herd of 42 with a big bull were in the first field up from the bridge on Friday last...
