I got a chance to do a little handheld test with the new Sony A900 and the Nikon D700 at high ISO and low ISO. I really thought that the Sony would have performed better. The A900 didn't seems too be "extremely clean" even at ISO 100. Both cameras were on fine .jgeg, but it's possible the D700 high ISO noise reduction was on normal... The Sony's .jpeg's are 13-25 mb each!

One of the big reasons why I recently switched my 35mm gear from Canon to Nikon. (Not to mention the terrible autofocus problems in the 1D mk III).
The high ISO allows you to do things you simply could not before. Especially while shooting wildlife in low light.
