G'Day

Does anyone know what the fall color situation is at Zion this year. I am planning a 6 day trip Oct 21-27, and hope to time it well with fall colors. Is this too early or too late for this year? That's one question.

Second question. Looking at Marc Adamus' shots of Zion from last year in the Virgin Narrows got me thinking. Does anyone know how far up the narrows one would need to go to start seeing trees with color?

Thanks for the help.

The best thing you can do is to call the folks at Zion for the most accurate and up to date info. regarding fall colors.

Thanks John,

I did that, but I don't trust rangers to rely accurate photography perspectives. Hoping to get a response from a photographer who has shot at Zion in the past. I am particularly interested in a response to my second question, Regarding how far one needs to venture into the Narrows to see some larger trees draped in fall colors?

Thanks, Shane

You may be a little early for color in the main canyon. You should have some color in the higher elevations, though.
You don't have to go too far into the narrows to find trees, but the specific ones in Marc's image are pretty far in.

Shane, I have spent a full week there twice during the fall season, and it is always the first ten days of November. There are very good photo ops in the first mile or two of the narrows, going in from the roads end. Can't guarantee large, or many, trees, but nice ones.
