Kestrel
Not been posting much for a while. last weeks trip to Richmond park didnt come up with anything too exciting for me (Bretts fault!)
This Kestrel dived by the side of my car to catch a worm then hopped into the middle of the road to eat it. My first shots were looking down on the bird and by the time I got to eye level the worm was gone....

To my eye the exposure could have done with -1 to -1.5, and not the best of settings, but still a good capture and a nice little story. Pleased you got the viewpoint you wanted.

Well the exposure looks fine to me Tony (on my monitor at any rate) - no blown highlights and no blocked shadows.

Yes the lighting is a bit harsh but there's still plenty of detail in the eye area.

It is what it is - a crackingly executed shot of a Kez in a not too ideal situation :wavey: :wavey:

Not often you get an opportunity like this Tony! A cracking shot, and he allowed you to get down and dirty for a photo! Exposure looks good to me too. A little dark around the eye perhaps, but hey, I would be pleased if it were mine !!

Great oppourtunity well taken Tony. The road surface is not the best area but I would be well pleased.

Hi Tony

Really good to meet you last weekend and put a face to your name.

Photography is about capturing our wildlife's behaviour in every situation including man made environments and although the setting may not be aesthetically pleasing it does tell a story - well captured!

I really like this one. It might be a road, but at least it is a complementary coloured road! If you were to lay down for that long where I live, someone would have been along and emptied your pockets !!

I have to agree with Ray, it looks about 1 - 1.5 stops over exposed on my monitor. Having said that, and heard the whole story of the encounter from Brett, it is a great capture in the circumstances.

I was there and you did a lot better than I did considering the circumstances, still glad we cancelled that ambulance to help get you off the ground.. Must remember to pack your frame next time..! A good encounter and a good day..!

Kestrels and roads go together in a lot of our sightings so perhaps appropriate to get one on the tarmac so to speak! At least, as noted, it tones well with the bird.

Exposure looks fine to me too
