yeah, actually found a rattlesnake! Usually others see them and then they are gone before I can see them. This one seemed to attract beetles, some kind of synergy there? I've seen racers and garters before but I always seem to miss the rattlers which is maybe a good thing.

dude your nuts, I would be trying to get as far away from this rattler as I possibly could LOL

Great shot, Bill. I consider you lucky for having seen it as well. That beetle has no idea of where it is, just happenstance.

See way too many of these nasty creatures, hate them! Probably saw 5-8 rattlers this year and 25-30 others while hiking somewhere in the Douglas County area. Saw 2 snakes just Saturday along the road by my house, 1 many have been baby rattlesnake, not so sure!

Having lived in Phoenix for 18 years I've been around my share of rattlesnakes. I hate them and always went the other way when I happened upon one. I do like the angle of the photo. The snake looks pissed!

I think I just made a silly little squeal and jumped. I see rattlers several times a year when I walk in the foothills. They don't normally look as mad as this one!
It's the ones you don't see that will get you:)

Wow, cool shot. I think I've only seen 1 rattler my entire life living here -- and that was from the school bus window. He/she definitely looks grumpy, I guess i would be too if I had bugs crawling all over me!

This is a great catch!
I just noticed the beetle on its back, which really makes this unique.

Looks like he was not all that happy with your Nikon glass.

Wow, gives me the creeps thinking how close you must of been to get this shot , though it is a very good shot, especially with the beetle!. I saw my fair share of snakes whilst I lived in North Carolina, we were thankful when we moved back to CO that snakes are not as abundant here!.

Wow! This just bristles with menace! Fantastic photo with great stock potential, I think. A little selective motion blur on the rattle might make it truly terrifying!
