On our way into Bishop, we did a quick run up a couple of the canyons and confirmed that we were a little early for peak colors. There was excellent color up high, but things were going to be looking better in a few days, so we proceeded on to the Alabama Hills for a couple of days.
Obviously not a renowned fall colors destination, but I worked some in where I could. Actually, there was some fantastic color in scrub, grasses and low-lying vegetation. I may post a image later that I really like, though it's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of comp.
In the meantime, a more traditional shot. I waited and waited for Whitney to reveal itself, but no luck. A small price to pay for the dramatic sky.
Oly C-8080; ISO 100, f/4 @ 1/160. Should've broken out the D2X, but I left it in the truck as the light had been very flat all morning.
C&C welcome!

The contrast between the warm colors and the blueish sky is nice.
Rick,
Very nice. The FG colors stand out and make the image for me. The sky certainly doesn't hurt either! Best Regards.

Love the omonous sky and how Whitney's engulfed by the clouds. Unfortunately viewers who haven't seen that don't know. Way to emphasize the foreground.

Very nice and different Fall color take.....
I also like the contrast and the black in that poor Sage sticking out from under all that color....
Lots of nice depth to this baby also.
Thanks for taking this detour and for sharing..
Excellent work, Rick. I have many fond memories from this area.

Rick,
Awesome! I love the colors and the combo with the ominous sky. My only nit - I'm wishing for a bit more room around the main plant up front - otherwise, this is a great image from the Alabama Hills.
