Another Bodie Window
After watching the wise old 4x5er's taking window shots here at Bodie after the NPN meet up in Lee Vining I thought I would give it a try.

Canon 5D 17-40 L F4 @ f16 1/4 sec iso 100 focal length 27mm

Way Kewl, Steve... LOL.... You even got the building in the Reflection level... :toast:
That's makes the image even more fun.. esp. knowing that nothing else IS......
Wow....that's a double hung slider window too.... Special capture...
Do you remember what building that was in???
Is that clouds ON the ragged curtains?
Makes me want to stagger down to the Sam Leon Bar again.... :jump: hic....

Hope the smoke wasn't blowing your way when you got home?
I'm originally from the Laurel Canyon/Ventura Blvd area.

Steve,
The reflection in the window is just priceless. This is a super image. Well done.

Agreed, the reflection in the window - along with the curtain remnants - give this a lot of character. Great job with exposure control, too. Very nice!

Very cool image! Love that reflection. It looks like a painting within the window frame.

This is very nice Steve. I love the reflection. I also wonder why there are so many darned nails around that thing?!

Steve, you have captured a great reflection of this somewhat haunting environment. The detail once again provides some real insight into the overall old building materials and techniques too.

Steve,

Great window from Bodie! A couple things really strike me - first, the awesome reflection, and second, the number of nails! They must have had some of those deluxe window awnings from time to time.... :-)

Now, I almost resemble the "old 4x5ers" remark like Harley.... but since I'm still west of the 1/2 century mark.... I'll let you slide. Now if you had been shooting LF, you could have corrected all that keystoning..... :-)

Lon, see you guys are old and wise( I'm pushing it, I know) I just learned something from you guys. I tried playing with my Tilt shift lens but it only goes so far.

Well I'm 30 years old but that was far from what I felt like when I saw all of you guys working those LF cams. I felt like a kid all over again with a toy camera. When I say, "wise old 4x5ers" it means you all have my uttermost respect w/ a touch of sarcasm too of course. I started w/ fixed focals lengths at the end of the 35mm film days then tried to switch back to a 24 tilt shift lens and found it very frustrating. So trying to view the image upside down, manually focusing, paying per each exposure, using the cloak, zooming with your legs, and everything else I don't know sounds very challenging I should try it.
:wavey:

Nelcha, Thanks for identifying the type of window. Hanging out with you for a day in Bodie might be equivalent to dumping a book into my head.
Yes those are clouds on the curtain.
"double hung slider window" interesting.
Don't know bodie that well to identify the building. Would know if I was there again. It's closer to the church and main part of town north of that connecting street between the two.

Steve,

I just like to tease all the members and see if they know what building they were photographing...?
I have so many images made from film that I haven't even scanned yet...of the INsides...
I try to memorize all of the buildings and contents... so usually I can look at an image
and tell you what building it is, unless it was something inside and the maintenance guys moved something,
then I can usually whip out a photo and tell them to put it back.....LOL
I also have about 50 copies of the Bodie Tour Brochure, it pairs up with all the
building markers numbers we just replaced a few years ago and tells you what each building is.
If we ever meet up we can always share lenses and have fun...
I use my 500mm w/1.4TC as a Landscape lens... and most laugh at me...
Unless Lon & Preston can keep me cool under the black cloth???

*cheers*
