Coal Tit ( all my early books as a kid called it Cole Tit )
You will love this or hate it. It will be interesting to see. This was taken through the room window again with the sun coming almost straight into the camera. The bird is illuminated by the light reflecting off the white wall which is about 5 foot away. The colours in the background are the Autumn leaves on our beech hedge. Lots of throw aways with over exposed backgrounds etc.

Nice looking image John but me thinks that if you raise the Contrast/Sat and apply it to the bird it will then not be dominated so much by the BG as it seems to overpower the subject. Just my thoughts on it.

interesting shot, not what i would call back lighting but i think i know what you mean, don't like the perch here much but the background is nice, might be better with a bit more distance between the bird and bg to blur it a bit more

Hi John
I can see what Major is saying as the BG does compete with the bird for your attention - that said still a very nice image of this restless little tit!

Hi Major
Yes I agree . I did play around with that a bit and lost the black detail, and some of the white in the bird and had to do selections etc, which is not my scene really. I thought I'd go for the best natural colour on the bird and leave the BG
Take your point though.

Hi Jack
Thanks- what I meant about BL was it coming into the camera which I think you realised...

PS can't alter perch to background without moving the house !

I like this one John. IMHO a lot of 'bird on a perch' shots can be quite sterile, perhaps because recieved wisdom says they should be shot that way. This, for the want of a better phrase, has a real feel to it and is far better for that.

I like it John, although it would be improved by less definition in the bg - what can you do? I really like these shots that tell something else about the environment that they were shot in. Its an autumn shot and all the better for it. Eric

I like it!! Very colourful and seasonal, the perch isn't all that bad, and nice pose and detail on the bird!! Well handled given the conditions you describe too.

I certainly like the colours and brightness of the background but agree it would be better with less definition in the leaves. Still a striking shot.

Thanks all.
I expected a mixed reaction to this one. Sometimes things left alone look way over the top.
This is perhaps a good example.

I like this one pretty much as is. My only minor nit (on my uncalibrated laptop screen) is the highlight behind the bird's leg

Hi John
Whilst not disagreeing with previous comments, I like the autumnal BG and the bird's stance, and raised crown feathers just clinch it for me.
