Diana's Bath Waterfall
I'm new here and new to the use of p series GND filters. This waterfall can be a stinker to capture because of the light which tends to be in front of the camera by the time I get there. Critique needed.
Nikon D40X
Sigma 18-200mm
HiTech GND .9 soft edge
1/2 s, f9, ISO 100 RAW format
Tripod

Welcome Debbe, and very nice shot. Your exposure is well handled, I'm assuming you positioned the grad. to hold down the bright falls and rocks on the lower right. Without knowing the spot, I might like to see more of the foreground to give more context and room for the waterfall. Does the stream bend toward the camera?

Debbie,
I too want to welcome you to NENP. Like kurt I believe something more in the foreground would probably improve this image. I was also thinkning that is you are using Photoshop CS3 the HDR tool in Bridge moght be something to plan on using the next time you go up to Dina's Bath. The High Dynamic Range tool allow you to take up 5 shots and merge them together. This way you couls frame the shot on the tripod, shot up to 5 frames exposing each for a different element in the compesition, and use the HDR tool to merge them in Photshop. Each exposure can be a layer and you can select the part of each frame you want to use. The software does an excellent jog of correcting for any minor alignment errors. I think the woods in the back ground would look better if there was just a little but better exposure on them and the HDR technique might help make that happen.
Nice shot just as is!!

Hi Debbie. NIce image and good capture of the water speed. Went to Diana's pool the other day. Is this part of the same stream segment in Chaplin, CT? If so, I guess I didn't go far enough up the stream. Hope to see more of your images.

Hi Debbe and welcome!! I think this is Diana's Bath in North Conway isn't it? I believe I recognize the big rock/boulder. I used to live down that way (in Bartlett) and loved going to the falls. I also agree about adding a bit more to the foreground, the water needs somewhere to go.
