Hello: We have reservations in late January to stay at the Snow Lodge for 1 week and can't decide on the best way to get there . We live in the Los Angeles area and can drive there or fly into Bozeman and take a coach to Mammoth Hot Springs. One of our concerns about driving there is the weather and leaving the car parked at Mammoth for 1 week in the snow.
Appreciate the help!

Flying into Bozeman and taking a coach is what I recommend. What the road conditions will be like in Jan is anyones guess, and having someone else drive on icey roads is always better then driving yourself.

I might suggest that you look into flying into Boise and coming in from the W Yellowstone side. That flight might be cheaper.

You'll love the stay at the Snow Lodge! A great base for a week of exploration.

On our last trip we got hammered by storms in both directtions on our drive from Denver to Jackson Hole. So, I appreciate your concern about the weather. However, the baggage limits and new extra charges are certainly a big negative when hauling camera gear, along with extra winter clothing & gear. They do rent snow shoes and cross country skis at the Snow Lodge, so that might help.

If you plan on additional snow coach tours from the lodge, be sure to book those in advance.

Thank you for all your posts...they pretty much confirmed what we thought...to fly into Bozeman even with the baggage limits and having someone else do the driving will ensure a better trip. Our lodging does include snow coaches and we signed in January up for additional tours plus our guide for the wolf viewing. Thanks again!
