Jay with acorn
jay
Strange actions by this bird. Nice to get Jays at the pool (they are coming regularly) but this one keeps dropping acorns in the water
taking them out again and flying off ! Any ideas ?
Takes all sorts!
A bigger acorn would have been better !
Usual pool set up.
Cheers

What's wrong with dunking? This is another beauty by the way.

That's exactly my reasoning ! but ! I don't think dickies think like us . If you drop an acorn into water, nothing happens ! ( for two days ! )

If it sinks it's solid, if it floats it has air in it and is thus hollow, possibly due to parasitic beetle/wasp larvae.

Very nice shot, no competing distractions with the Jay.

Nice shot!!

Ray, if that is the case, that's one smart bird!! Although I wouldn't be surprised, I wonder how he learned how to do it??

Very interesting John, and lovely and sharp as usual!!

Lovely image of one of my favourite birds. Just reminds you that there is so much we don't understand about the natural world.

Another very good image John. I suppose bigger nuts would be on a lot of wish-lists .... Jays ,squirrels whatever!
