About 7 pm way up 9 Mile Canyon (west of Ridgecrest) the sun finally dropped below the clouds and lit up this wave cloud to the north east of the canyon road, very windy evening.

Reno,
Awesome sky! You've framed the entire scene nicely with the rabbit brush in the foreground. In all the years I've visited the Eastern Sierra, I've yet to see a Sierra wave, or anything close to this. Great catch.
This truly can be a once in a life time seen & captured event, Reno. I was very lucky to have been in the Alabama Hills a few years back now during such an event. Something I will never forget. A really wonderful layering of the cloud formation here.

I can't believe no one mentioned the severe banding in the sky. I love the way those clouds display all those bands. I especially like the way the yellow in the sky and fg bookends that lovely strip of blue. Nice work!

Really great shot Reno. What I like about this is that the light seems to be shining right on that patch of rabbitbrush. The sky is a killer too!!!

Excellent shot Reno! Love those clouds, and the foreground just sets this scene off

Hi Reno,
Cool looking image and cloud. I never get to see those clouds. Dang!

Wow! Love this shot! Did you use a ND filter to hold back those clouds? Bravo!

Thank you all for the comments, they are appreciated. Bryan, no filters of any kind, straight shot.

Makes it all the more amazing then Reno! Especially given how bright those lenticular clouds can be
