Hi folks,
Something I've noticed we as a community have gotten away from is the inclusion of equipment used and exposure details in our image posts. This is a requirement of the posting guidelines found here:
This same link to the guidelines can be found above the text entry box when you are filling out a post.
Please take the time to review the posting guidelines. All it takes is a few minutes of your time for a real return in value for us all!
Here is a sample of what one needs to provide:
Canon 1D Mark III
Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 L @ 44mm
1/250 sec @ F/8.0 ISO 100
Circular Polarizer
(Anything else used that added to the resulting image)
The above data really helps us all provide YOU with truly valuable feedback on your posted images.
Thanks folks!!

I think you need to read the guidelines again before you make this statement. No where does it state that it is a requirement.
It is specified as a photo tip and it goes on to say you should consider providing the information to get the most out of the experience, but nowhere does it state that it is mandatory.
You get out of the experience as much as you put in.
Just my $.02

um yeah the word "required" isn't there. I do think including this information is tremendously value added for sure!

And I agree as posted in my first comment. You get as much out of the critique as you put in.

I guess my frustration comes from in the past we as a community used to be really good about this. These days it's the exception when someone posts image details...
Spose I'm just moody today....

What to me is kind of hard when I see the technicals is that I don't keep up with what camera manufacturer, has what features. Is your camera full frame, or does it have a crop factor. Back in the good old days when technicals were posted, there was a limited amount of cameras and you actually knew that the crop factor was say 1.5, so lens info was relatable. So if someone said it was taken with an Olympus 510, 14-54mm lens at 54, would you know that it had a 2.0 crop factor? That is why I don't think it is so helpful anymore. FF, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 crop factors. It gets overwhelming.

I understand that! I can reasonably keep track of the Canon line since that's what we shoot. And I know some of Nikon's offerings. Beyond that I've no clue!

OK, new rule for posting on NPN: full frame cameras only. Problem solved!

Technicals:
Camera used for this post: Nothing! I'm waiting for the 5D Mark II and I have no camera!
( I suppose this reply had nothing value added... G'nite from the East Side of America fellas!)

Paul it had the wonderful value of making me chuckle!! The world needs more chuckles!!
I do agree that locations should be included considering this board serves a global community but tech specs IMO are of little use unles the image offers challenging exposure settings.

I suggest that all members who post their images online be prudent about ensuring that the EXIF and IPTC data is embedded not only for reference, but as indication of copyright/ownership. With the data embedded, viewers can see the data which includes camera details and settings with tools like Opanda EXIF viewer and other similar applications. This way, those who want to see the info can and the poster does not have to take the time to add it to the message and it also minimizes the amount of data input to the forums DB. This is very easy to accomplish, requires little effort from both the poster and viewers.
