I'm still having a problem with TPN recognizing my membership, something about reworking the site at the moment. Anyway I have decided I'd like to join in and meet some of the TPN members for the Zion trip. I'll keep trying to get into the TPN network so as to introduce myself and stay up to date with meeting locations/times.
I will be driving so I'll meet up with you in Zion on the 21st.
Drop me an email and I'll fill you in. It will be great to have you!
In the meantime here's the summary post for dates and places. I'll fill in the links for hotels and such in my responding email:
The previous thread was getting long, with important details scattered throughout. Sarah gleaned them from the mix and I've added a few more, in order to help with decisions and planning. Once this is a sticky, I think we should make this initial post to the thread the "official" trip planner, and I'll edit it serially to include details that emerge in additional posts. Hopefully that will help keep them tabulated in one spot at the top, providing an easy reference even as the thread continues to grow. I hope that's clear.
TPN American Southwest Trip
Trip Dates:
Friday, November 21st: Meeting arrivals in Las Vegas then proceeding to Zion. Those not flying in can go directly to Zion if they choose.
Official Park Service Site- Zion

Saturday, November 22 through Sunday November 23: All day shooting in Zion (details to follow).
Monday, November 24: Drive to Death Valley to arrive in the evening.

My favorite is Canyon Ranch Motel with off-peak rates of $59-$69. The picture on their home page does not overstate the beauty and ambiance of the place.

Rooms, swimming pool, restaurant, convenience store, gas.
Las Vegas- For those who need to overnight:
You can always find some good deals in Vegas on hotels/motels. Check the internet. The Sahara and Circus Circus have some decent cheap rooms (if you want to be in the heart of town.. and if you've never been there.. it's something to see and photograph!) or, if you have more money than you know what to do with, you could stay at the Bellagio.
For those booking flights-
I recommend arriving in Las Vegas as early in the day as possible on the 21st of November so that we can get going to Zion.
