Hi all,

Thought I would see if some people wanted a break from the disagreements over the WPOY winners and see if anyone can offer any advice on website design.

I have been slowly building my own website by reading what ever I can on the subject and seeing what I like from other websites.

http://www.ecoworker.co.uk is the result of my initial designs. Any feedback postive or negative would be good.

Hi Ben,

just had a look at your site and on the gallery some ( 5 ) of the pictures have dropped off the white background  Also people might like to know what make of Bird it is on that shot

Hello Ben, I have absolutely nil knowledge of site construction but on an ordinary viewer level I've just had a quick look at your site and everything seems to be working OK. I didn't experience any picture drop off. When I checked I can see that the title is at the bottom of the image but perhaps, given your academic background and your apparent target audience ( I'm assuming ecological and corporate clients) you might consider a more detailed caption eg latin names and locations. Just a thought. The only other nit I would mention (and this is a totally personal thing) is the use of a slideshow format. These seem to be very popular these days but I just find it irritating waiting for them to load etc. I prefer being able to click on a thumbnail and open my selected image instantly but as I said, that is just a personal thing.
Best wishes for your project.

Hi Ben,

Yes, on my system the lower 5 images drop off in the gallery too. Other than that, it seems to be a very tidy website !

Hi Ben

I know to my cost that you have to check that websites work with several different browsers. Yours displays OK with Internet Explorer but the images are misplaced with Firefox. It's also a bit slow to load. A nice design though.

Seems a few issues then. As a complete beginner to web design I am sure i will get there soon.

I will investigate the browser issue when i get a chance. Thanks for the feedback.
