Under the stars
It was a beautiful Saturday night last weekend, with no wind and the temps were fairly comfortable too. I'd have loved to stay all night, but I had to be up early for work Sunday, and Monument Rocks is 2.5 hours from home :(. I lit the rock with a large flashlight. 50D, ISO 1600, f/3.5 (should have dropped to 2.8), 20 sec, minimal NR to rock only. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Very cool Rob! This would have been a great spot for trails (if time allowed), but this works well. If you shot in raw, maybe you could process another one for the darker areas. I wish I had some of those rocks in Arkansas...

Wow Rob that's cool ! Looks like from another planet. You sure you were only 2.5 hrs. from home? From this web quality version it looks very technically right on. A wonderful choice for a formation to light up. The opening on the right side for me really makes it. Well done. And Kansas to boot!

Very cool Rob, an otherworldly scene set under a star filled Kansas sky. Good work on this one!

Your photo seems almost otherworldly . . . evoking images of Mars. Beautiful.

The rock almost seems to glow with its own light. Almost spooky, which makes it kind of appropriate for Halloween. But really, another great night shot, Rob.

What a naet picture of Monument Rocks, so much different than what you usually see. Great job!

Great image Rob. I like the black sky and the "frozen" stars.

Love the glowing rock and I can't believe all those stars. It must have been so cool to have been there to see it. Great work!!

Thanks everybody. I think it is easy to see why I enjoy shooting out there at night :). Under the full moon, the rocks really seem to glow at times, and I can't wait till I can get out there under a full moon again.
