Monitor and printer calibration

I am currently using a Huey to calibrate my pc but it doesn't seem to do a very good job. I am using an Epson 3800 printer and the color match and brightness is not as good as I hoped. What seems to work as far as hardware and software to do this.

Thanks
Carroll

Are the prints darker than what you see on your monitor?
Does the Huey allow you to adjust your brightness setting?
I'm using 120 cd/m2 luminance, which works very well for me.

Which paper are you using? Are you selecting the right profile for that particular paper?

If you do a search in this forum their are some good threads on this subject, they have helped me get things closer between monitor and printer..

The prints are darker and the yellows are not as bright and saturated as on the monitor. Maybe this has something to do with the gamut?

That's always possible.
What color space are you using for prints?

Other thoughts...
-- Are you soft proofing? What does the soft proof view look like?
-- What rendering intent are you using?
-- Are you absolutely 100% positive you have all of settings correct and aren't doing anything like double profiling?
-- There's always the possibility that a custom profile could fix your problem

I would want to think about these options before spending a few hundred dollars on a better calibrator.

Here is a good discussion regarding monitor-print matching...

Prints Not Matching Monitor

Many thanks to all who replied. After going back and forth between your replies and the printer properties dialog boxes I believe that I have things set up. I think that the way I had proofing set up caused most of my problems. I also lowered the brightness and contrast on the monitor. I don't know if everysetting is technically correct but the results are so far satisfactory. Again, thanks.
