dendroica coronata
I am not a photographer of small birds. I don't have the patience or equipment, and it is so much easier to photograph wading birds, ducks and geese. The little guys just move faster than I can find and focus.
Every once in a while, I manage to catch one unawares so to speak, or at least slower and less wary. This little guy stayed around for 3 shots, one of which I thought was worthwhile, if not up to the poses and perches of avian photography standards. At least he's sharp.
D300 w 80mm - 400mm VR lens @ 400mm, f/5.6, 1/800 sec., ISO 400.
Nice crisp shot and beautiful warm light!
Small birds in the wild will eat up all your spare time just in sitting and waiting, leaving no time for pleasant chores like mowing the lawn, etc.

I posted this in the avian gallery of NPN. The consensus was that this was probably a palm warbler, with a minor vote for prairie warbler. Everyone seems to think it is a juvenile, whatever the ID. Just not a yellow-rumped warbler.
