Hermit Pass
I shot this from Hermit Pass on the 4X5, but didn't realize that the LRC sunlit rocks were going to blow out. I've seen some references to some cloning techniques that can be used to bring texture into this type of a situation to salvage an image and am wondering if you think it would be worth the effort. Regardless, it was still a fine afternoon up on the pass.

If you selected that portion and then did a selective color layer and added black to the whites, perhaps that would tone it down so it's not so jolting. Decent shot otherwise.

I like this too. I certainly think it would be worth the effort to fix. Check out Katrin Eismann's book on restoration and repair. She's got a couple of techniques for fixing blown highlights.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. I would crop off the bottom half just above the bright patches of snow. The light on the mountains and the sky are really nice. Why not limit the image to those two elements? It would be a lot less effort.

Cheers,

The rocks in the foreground just aren't doing it for me blown out or not IMO. The jet contrails are a little bit of a problem too. I like the light on the peaks though. Do you have a simpler comp that still shows the lake and the peaks without the rocks on the bottom right?
